Camino de Santiago To Walk Far Carry Less eBook JeanChristie Ashmore Amy Scott Reviews

Great book, very informative and easy to read as well as helpful and full of insight.
Down and dirty giving specifics of what and what not to carry if planning on walking the 500-mile El Camino. Some prejudices creep in, but that's OK. Anyone who has backpacked or done serious hiking has developed his/her own quirks and preferences. As a reader, you can't reject'em if you don't know about'em...I found the book useful and will rely on much of if if I do the Camino next Spring as anticipated. Reminded me of Colin Fletcher's The Compleate Walker of several years ago, tho' advances in backpacking technology has changed enormously since then.
Need just the nuts and bolts of putting together your pilgrimage? This is the book for you. Great advice and a good way to get your head straight when putting together your gear. Eminently practical.
I have found this a perfect resource starting point for down sizing my travel pack.
It really helped me get all necessities into a carry on size backpack for 3 weeks in India!
I've walked el Camino (Portuguese route) and am planning a return later this month (Frances route). Wish I'd had this book the first time! This may be the most perfect "niche" book I've ever read. The style is friendly and encouraging. The author is careful to give "pros and cons" of various items (water bottle or hydration bladder?), allowing the reader to make his/her own choices. I also appreciate Ashmore's respectful acknowledgement that we all "pack for what we fear," and her gentle way of "talking us down" so we don't pack, say, a frying pan, two hardback books and three pairs of shoes. Bon Camino, peregrinos ... Read this book and let the journey begin.
I liked the way the author gave you pluses and minuses for certain items (poncho vs rain suit, water bottle, vs camelback water pack, hiking boots vs hiking shoes) and let you make your own decision based on what is best fr you.
Excellent resource! I am planning a trip for the summer of 2018 and bought this book hoping it would help with that process; it has more than met my expectations so far.
